All 3 mixes are stompers – the original just a pure house track with lashings of funk, the Nathan Stewart & Boss Tweed mix a little on the deeper side, and then Jake does the tech in fine style. Superb!”

Artist: Native Intelligence
EP Title: R U Westside
Headset Recordings 2010
——————————————————————–
Tracklisting:
1. Native Intelligence – R U Westside (Original Mix)
2. Native Intelligence – R U Westside (Sir Stewart & Boss Tweed Remix)
3. Native Intelligence – R U Westside (Jake Childs Remix)
——————————————————————–
R U Westside is a funky latin house track from San Francisco-based producer, Native Intelligence. Native Intelligence is mostly known in San Francisco for his eclectic and energizing DJ sets. His production is just as eclectic; he has previous releases on breaks label, Sleevin Records and an upcoming release on DJ Fame and Eric Sharp’s new dance imprint Rock It Science Laboratories.
Native Intelligence’s original mix is chock-full of twists and surprises. Vocal stabs staple the funky bassline to latin piano loops. The piano floats in and out of depth while Native Intelligence whispers to you gently about “Cali”. Choppy little bass bits signal the break down, where the full funk is delivered.
Sir Stewart & Boss Tweed (Soul Fuel, Llama Farm, Kolour) deliver a juiced-up and mutated remix of the original. Crunchy drum effects and a squelchy synth join the piano loops from the original to create a build that stutters into a dancefloor monster.
Jake Childs (Freerange, OM, Uniform) presents a dark and techy version of R U Westside. A ringing bell exploits the space above dark synths until the drum beats rest. Following an airy breakdown, the remix picks back up and the synths really make sure you feel nice and filthy.

I want to welcome Stephen Glass to the Headset Recordings staff. We know Stephen from back in the old Southern House Coalition days when he used to live in Arkansas. Stephen is now living in Austin, Texas. You can catch him DJing around Austin or on his radio show Boombox Acrobatics every other Sunday on MyHouseYourHouse radio.
Here’s his bio from his soundcloud page.
“I saw all those Disco movies when I was a kid. I was easily influenced. One day, I talked my fifth grade home-room teacher into letting me turn our class-room into a disco. I brought my records from home, along with my Radio-Shack Disco lights and I borrowed a couple of those big tweed clad record players with the speakers built in. You know, the kind that public schools used to have. Anyway, I never looked back. After High School, I volunteered as a night time DJ for a community radio station. I filled the airwaves with early 90s House Music and Techno, ultimately assuming the role as Dance Music Director. Again, easily influenced, I got wrapped up in the politics of the station which was staffed by former Black Panther activists and old school Jazz-heads. Unknown tome at the time, my radio programs became the inspiration for a lot of the raves and warehouse parties in my region. I just thought it was cool getting all the promo vinyl. Before long, I was DJing local and regional warehouse parties, advocating House Music with the passion of a evangelist. Mostly, I was just walking my designer shoes across sticky floors and playing my records on shitty sound systems. PLUR. I was writing for a Rave magazine and local alternative newspapers and it was cool when my DJ chart was printed in Project X magazine. I happily made the transition from the warehouse gigs to playing late night clubs and bars. I no longer worried about messing up my fashions. Today, I DJ a weekly with fellow Austin Myhouse-Yourhouse broadcasters at a venue called Barcelona. I like watching TV while I listen to music. I prefer watching three TVs at a time. I text message while I drive. I advocate ADD, it has served me well. You can check out my radio show, Boombox Acrobatics, live on Myhouse-Yourhouse every other Sunday. http://radio.myhouse-yourhouse.net/ ”
Jake Childs (from HDST1206) and Adam Warped (aka Johnny Blackouts) are in a band called POSR. They just released their first single on Uniform Recordings featuring remixes by Larry Tee and Alexander Technique, DJ 0045 and Fixture, and Hearsay.
We’ll be at the South by Southwest Festival again this year. If you’re going to be in Austin, come out and have a good time.

I was lucky enough to witness a live set from Alland Byallo (from upcoming HDST1207) last night. We actually got to hear his remix of HDST1207 on the crazy white turbosound speakers they had at 222. The entire night was an around great time: drinking, dancing, lots of fun. Alland does his Nightlight Music night at 222 Hyde in San francisco every fourth Friday of the month. I posted the flyer from last night above. The next Nightlight Music night is on February 26th. See you there!
